PEER Collaborative National Workshop

Are you a junior faculty member, recently tenured faculty member or research staff person who is primarily evaluated on their engineering education research? The PEER Collaborative is a growing community of people in a similar situation who peer mentor each other in engineering education research matters.

The 2018 PEER Collaborative National Workshop is scheduled in parallel with the ASEE Annual Conference in Salt Lake City, UT on June 28. Specific locations and times are still TBD. Position announcement from Purdue University

Purdue University recently announced a position open for the EPICS University Coordinator. This is a full-time, recurring funded staff position that is dedicated to the national and international dissemination of EPICS, coordination of multi-university activities, assisting other universities to develop and institutionalize EPICS, and building partnerships with corporations and organizations. This position is also a leader in development and fundraising efforts across all of the EPICS programs including grant writing.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree.
At least five years of experience required in one or more of the following areas:
development of strategic & operating plans, budgets, fundraising, organizing conferences and high-profile events, marketing, public relations, maintaining contacts with university programs, and corporations, maintaining broad network of contacts
faculty or staff experience working with engineering faculty on academic and curricular efforts, experience across departments or majors, experience with fundraising, or
community-engagement/service-learning coordination or implementation including working with faculty from multiple disciplines to integrate service-learning by engaging communities to meet needs locally or globally, development or fundraising experience.
An equivalent combination of education and related experience will be considered.
Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.
Good time management and organizational skills.
Must be a motivated self-starter, take the initiative in designing programs, writing proposals, and organizing efforts needed to increase the success, visibility and resources of EPICS
Work with diverse people from industry, the community, the university, and foundations.
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally

Postdoctoral researcher position openings at Concord Consortium

There are a number of openings for postdoctoral researchers at the Concord Consortium (Corey Schimpf is working with them now – a Purdue Engineering Education alum) – working with Charles Xie and Jia Chao (learning scientist background)

One of them will lead a research project that aims to integrate computing thinking into high school math classroom using the R programming language and web-based learning platform. The other two will work on developing artificial intelligence to support scientific inquiry, engineering design, and computational thinking. All are very exciting directions!

Position for Continuing Track Assistant Professor

The Biomedical Engineering Department ( at the University of Delaware (UD) invites applications for a full time, Continuing Track Assistant Professor faculty position. Responsibilities will include teaching and curriculum development related to all aspects of the undergraduate biomedical engineering program with specific concentration in bioelectrical systems and instrumentation. The successful candidate will develop and teach new and existing undergraduate courses on engineering fundamentals and design, mentor undergraduate students, and take an active role in the continuous improvement of our undergraduate curriculum. The candidate will apply innovative teaching methods and engage with the broader engineering education community to promote best practices.

UM Open House

The University of Michigan’s College of Engineering is seeking applicants for the inaugural class of our PhD and MS program in Engineering Education Research – please encourage students to apply for our program. Michigan’s Engineering Education Research (EER) program represents a unique, interdisciplinary model. EER faculty are embedded within the traditional engineering departments, while graduate students will be part of a college-wide program engaging in innovative research and making scholarly contributions to the engineering education community. This allows the EER faculty and their research to be well-integrated with the traditional engineering disciplines and provides students a better opportunity for research. An EER graduate degree will provide students with career opportunities in academia, nonprofit organizations, and industry.
